The Paradise Cave Archaeological Museum

Around Baracoa are several dozen pre-Columbian archaeological sites related to the two major indigenous groups that once inhabited the region. It is a marvellous facility for lovers of history and archaeology, situated in a colonial ambiance on the second terrace of Seboruco, known as Paradise Heights. The area in which it is located is rich in remains of our first population. The Paradise Cave Archaeological Museum contains a copy of the Taíno tobacco idol found nearby in 1903 (the original is in Havana).

Baracoa

El Yunque

A peculiar elevation of vertical slopes and flat top located 8 km off the Baracoa city, Columbus described it in his diary notes of his first trip to Cuba in 1492. El Yunque de Baracoa, declared National Monument and symbol of the city of Baracoa, considered an ecological island that called the attention of Admiral Christopher Columbus in his first trip to the Americas, serving as an orientation feature due to its unusual characteristics (flat topped). The fauna of the Yunque is rich and diverse there are abundant woodpeckers, humming birds, jutias, lizards, reptiles. There is a natural viewpoint at 573 m, from which one can see a vast landscape of green mountains and rivers with the Bay of Baracoa as backdrop.

Maguana Beach

The Maguana Beach, located around 20 kilometers North from Baracoa, is the perfect sample of a tropical beach. This delightful beach is characterized not just by its reluctant white sand of its shore, but for being surrounded by palm trees and counts with quiet turquoise waters, result of the protection brought by the beautiful coral reef located very close to the coast. It is a very popular beach among the natives and the visitors. At the beach are some low scale facilities for visitors, including restaurant services and tourist villas that can be rented.

Toa River

The Río Toa, name which means ‘frog’ in indigenous language, is located 10 km Northwest from Baracoa. It is born in the Chuchillas Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa and it flows into the city of Baracoa. The Toa is characterized because it is the widest river in Cuba and where 71 tributaries flow into. With a length of 130 kilometers, it constitutes the habitat of a great number of plants and birds. The watershed of the Toa River occupies around 70% of the Reservation of the Biosphere that takes the name of "Cuchilla del Toa". The values of its biological diversity, the variety of its landscapes, the peculiarity of its ecosystems and the high presence of endemic species in flora and fauna, constitute the refuge and species center oldest of Cuba. Also standing out, it has its depth and its lushy woods which runs through, by what is known as "Cuba’s Amazon". Visitors of all the corners of the world are admitted fascinated by the natural beauties that it stores and the state of conservation of that jewel of the world geography. Enjoy an ecotourism day by one of the most significant spots of Cuba.
